Overview
UNDP AI as a Service (AIaaS) is a collection of services that leverage the latest advancements in Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to help you tap into the wealth of data for better development policies. It consists of DFx AI Chat, a flagship multi-purpose GenAI platform built upon Azure OpenAI, and a set of micro-services we use to build custom products that enable you to extract, analyze and summarize knowledge from non-traditional data sources including webpages, documents, images, and social media interactions at scale.

ChatGPT is a web-based chatbot platform developed by OpenAI and powered by GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 models which are hosted by OpenAI company. DFx AI Chat is also a web-based chatbot platform. Just like ChatGPT, it too leverages GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 models. However, unlike ChatGPT, DFx AI Chat uses the models hosted by Microsoft on Azure OpenAI Service. This provides security and enterprise promise of Azure while relying on UNDP's corporate cloud infrastructure. It also enables higher usage rates that scale well for organization-wide adoption of the service.
From a user perspective, ChatGPT provides generic experience that caters to an average user. In contrast, DFx AI Chat is tailored specifically to use cases at UNDP. The chatbot is made aware of the organizational context it operates in and has built-in capabilities to discuss topics related to multiple areas of UNDP's work.
